Job Description:

This Assistant Manager Base Operations supports our Purpose through their management of the Dallas (DAL) Inflight Base and the Flight Attendants based there. This role uses their understanding of Southwest’s collective bargaining agreement to lead a Team that carries out administrative duties and provides support to Flight Attendants based in Dallas. The Assistant Manager Base Operations is detail oriented and an effective communicator who is excited to serve as a liaison between the base and Leadership at Headquarters.

  • Responsibilities
    • Provide Leadership, direction, and mentoring to Inflight Base Employees
    • Facilitate meetings with the union representing Southwest Airlines Flight Attendants regarding current issues and grievances
    • Assist the Base Manager with the daily operative and administrative functions of the Inflight Base with contractual issues, questions, and correspondence
    • Ensure compliance with all work rules and regulations
    • Complete timely Irregulatory Report follow up with Flight Attendants
    • Maintain a working knowledge of the F/A Manual, Work & Conduct Rules, and Collective Bargaining Agreement
    • Plan and oversee the daily operative and administrative function of the Inflight base
    • Perform special projects as needed and delegated by the Base Manager and Senior Leaders
    • Assist with Employee development, mentoring, training, and coaching
    • Attend all required annual Leadership training (i.e., recurrent training, drug and alcohol training, and any other training set by the Company or Leader)
    • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of the business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, Leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of People and resources
    • Knowledge of the administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, file and record management, stenography and transcription, form design, and other office procedures and terminology
    • Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing Customer and personal services which may include Customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluating Customer Satisfaction
    • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
    • Skilled in managing one's own time and the time of others, with an ability to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information
    • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products specifically Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint
    • Skilled ability to lead others, including other operational Leaders, without direct positional authority
  • Education

    • Required: High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience

    • Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:

      • Leading Teams and/or Employees

      • Airline operations

      • Reading, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with a Collective Bargaining Agreement

      • Managing/leading a remote workforce

  • Licensing/Certification

    • DOT Position must maintain Crew status and maintain Flight Attendant training requirements

  • Physical Abilities

    • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time

    • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job

    • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

  • Other Qualifications

    • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines

    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986

    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

    • Must be able to travel as needed which may include nights, weekends, holidays and some overnight stays
