Job Description: Prescription Coordinator

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and organized Prescription Coordinator to join our healthcare team. As a Prescription Coordinator, you will be responsible for facilitating the prescription fulfillment process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of prescription orders, and providing support to patients, healthcare providers, and pharmacy staff. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities:

  1. Prescription Processing: Receive prescription orders from healthcare providers and patients via phone, fax, or electronic systems. Review prescriptions for completeness, accuracy, and validity, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and insurance guidelines.

  2. Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for prescription medications. Coordinate with insurance providers to obtain prior authorizations, determine copay amounts, and address coverage issues or billing discrepancies.

  3. Patient Communication: Communicate with patients to confirm prescription details, answer questions about medication usage and side effects, and provide instructions for prescription pick-up or delivery. Educate patients on medication adherence and refill procedures.

  4. Physician Coordination: Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to clarify prescription orders, obtain additional information or documentation as needed, and facilitate prescription refills or adjustments.

  5. Pharmacy Liaison: Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and pharmacy staff to ensure seamless coordination of prescription services. Communicate prescription-related information and updates to pharmacy team members to facilitate order fulfillment.

  6. Documentation and Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and complete records of prescription orders, insurance information, patient communications, and related documentation. Enter prescription data into electronic health records (EHR) or pharmacy management systems accurately and promptly.

  7. Quality Assurance: Perform quality checks on prescription orders to verify accuracy and compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures. Address any discrepancies or errors in prescription processing promptly and effectively.

  8. Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders. Address inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and empathetic manner, striving to exceed customer expectations.

Requirements:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or certification in pharmacy technology or a related field preferred.

  2. Experience: Previous experience in a pharmacy, healthcare, or customer service setting preferred. Familiarity with prescription processing, insurance verification, and pharmacy operations.

  3. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals, including patients, healthcare providers, and pharmacy staff.

  4. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  5. Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in using computer systems, electronic health records (EHR), and pharmacy management software. Ability to navigate software applications and enter data accurately and efficiently.
