Function
Sanitation Equipment Operator/Street Sweeper operates numerous types of equipment on public roadways. This equipment may include, but not limited to a right-side operated street sweeper, right-side operated automation truck, rear loader, and other equipment as assigned to keep Charlotte beautiful. Hours: M-F 6:30a-3p 1st Shift
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Position operates numerous types of equipment on public roadways Applies herbicide along public rights-of-way Uses hand tools when needed Prepares pre-trip inspections on the equipment / daily reports / forms Detects maintenance needs / performs minor mechanical repairs & adjustments on equipment Works in team environment Occasionally serve as team leader on small field crews Occasional work on days / holidays / other unusual hours in support of special events or emergency response as required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to follow specific instructions / recognize / apply safe work practices Ability to walk long distances Lift & carry 100lbs. Work outdoors exposed to all weather conditions Ability to work holidays / nights/ weekends / other unusual hours as needed in support of special events or emergency response Ability to obtain NC Pesticide license within six months of employment
Preferred Qualification
High School diploma/GED Previous manual labor experience
Minimum Qualifications
Five years related work experience OR High School Graduate or Equivalent and three years related work experience AND Required: CDL
Conditions of Employment
The City s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check. Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination.
