Senior Battery Modeling Engineer
The powertrain architecture and modeling team develops a parametric vehicle model that is utilized for vehicle architecture design, performance evaluation, and decision making.
As a member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, utilization, and validation of component and system models in a generalized capacity, and battery and cell modeling in a specialized capacity. You will use the model to guide design teams in trade-off studies, facilitate multi-objective optimization, and communicate performance expectations and requirements through the engineering lifecycle of various products and initiatives. Your work will be highly cross functional with cell, battery, thermal, and drive system engineering teams.
- Advance the capabilities of and intellectual property of Tesla’s in-house powertrain performance model
- Work with the model to produce repeatable and dependable results for various stakeholders within the organization
- Effectively communicate modeling study results to drive architecture and performance initiatives.
- Lead studies of highly dynamic battery maneuvers such as fast charge, high performance driving, and extreme ambient condition operation.
- Excellent first-principle physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and thermodynamics and fluids.
- Excellent understanding of battery thermo-electrical interactions and impact on performance.
- Good understanding of cell ion and electron transfer processes.
- Hybrid or electric powertrain component model development and data analysis in Matlab/Simulink
- Advanced Matlab script development and experience with large datasets and complicated models.
Proficiency in numerical computation, differential equations, linear algebra, statistics, and optimization.
Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams
Greater than 3 years’ experience utilizing the essential skills above
MS or BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Physics or equivalent experience
