The Role
Tesla is looking for a motivated and accomplished Staff Electrical Design Engineer to help create the finest roof top solar solutions. You will play a key role developing the electrical design and maximizing energy yield of our next generation PV modules that look amazing at the same time.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, simulate, prototype and launch electrical designs working closely with pilot, manufacturing, reliability, and certification teams
  • Scrutinize electrical performance of both components and module using appropriate metrology and imaging
  • Develop and own electrical specifications and controls for product components
  • Factor system integration with power electronics. Forecast and optimize for energy yield across a variety of use cases
  • Run field studies to validate forecasted performance, root cause discrepancies and identify areas for additional system improvement
  • Drive engineering projects and cross-functional and supplier support and testing
Desired Experience
  • Experience modeling energy yield of PV systems
  • Understanding of IEC requirements and test methods for PV modules
  • Experience launching electrical designs for high volume manufacturing
  • Experience building data acquisition systems especially for outdoor monitoring of PV performance
  • Ability to quantitatively utilize and interpret diagnostic imaging such as EL and thermography
Requirements
  • B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in electrical engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years relevant work experience with B.S., 3+ years relevant work experience with M.S. / Ph.D.
  • Deep understanding of at least one photovoltaic technology or component
  • Proficient in modeling circuits and thermal behavior
  • Working knowledge of power electronics, thermal and mechanical engineering, and reliability failure modes
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to use first principle reasoning
