The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is seeking applications for an articulate, experienced and innovative Senior Accountant to join the Museum's Finance team. This position reports directly to the Controller and will be responsible for processing daily revenues, administering Museum payables, and preparing and inputting journal entries. This position also works closely and collaboratively across all Museum cross functions to ensure responsibility and stewardship of institutional resources.


Museum History


Founded in 1989 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is an impartial, multi-generational destination and forum for exploring the memory and effects of the events surrounding the assassination of President Kennedy, through sharing the impact of his legacy on our ever-changing global society. The Museum is an unbiased narrator of the historical events of November 1963 and the aftermath, placed within local and national historical contexts.


The Museum further connects the past to the present through relevant presidential and cultural themes incorporating dynamic storytelling, special exhibits, educational programming and innovative community partnerships. Program themes are drawn from the Museum's historical collectionsa diverse and expanding repository of 90,000 items ranging from objects, works of art, films, photographs, archival records and oral historiesand explore varied aspects of President Kennedy's legacy from the role of the arts to the importance of science to the need for personal courage, leadership and service.


Occupying the sixth and seventh floors of the historic Texas School Book Depository Building, the Museum welcomed over 400,000 US and international visitors each year before the pandemic. Now open five days a week instead of seven since re-opening from the pandemic lockdown, the Museum welcomes around 265,000 guests each year. The core exhibit which is on the Sixth Floor engages visitors with an in-depth exploration of President Kennedy's November 1963 trip to Texas, his life and his legacy, within the context of the 1960s, and his continued influence today. The Seventh Floor is a multi-use space in which special exhibits, educational events, arts performances and other enriching experiences are presented.


Several significant projects are rapidly and strategically underway to actively engage younger audiences, educators and the North Texas communities who may not have had easy access to our educational resources. Serving as a forward-thinking institution that represents our local constituents and also supports shared growth of regional cultural tourism, we are fully committed to ensuring equitable, accessible and inclusive practices in all facets of our work, programming, outreach and internal operations. The Museum seeks a Senior Accountant who will help to contribute to the organization's growth, and with special emphasis on diversifying funding sources.


Senior Accountant Job Summary


The Senior Account for The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza will be responsible for processing daily revenues and accounts receivable, administering the accounts payable and payment processes, preparing and inputting monthly Journal Entries, and maintaining the General Ledger system. This role reports directly to the Controller.


Essential Responsibilities:



  • Processes accounts payable payments via checks and ACH on a bi-weekly basis, ensuring invoices are coded properly and supported by an approved PO.

  • Assists Controller with biweekly payroll process, as necessary.

  • Remits biweekly 401k contribution entries and applicable employer match to third party administrator.

  • Prepares and processes monthly Journal Entries, inputting into Financial Edge GL systems accurately, including month-end depreciation expense, payroll entries, prepaid expense, etc.

  • Reconciles monthly credit card statements ensuring coding is correct for entries.

  • Prepares daily revenue entries for Admissions, Parking and Retail sales. Reviews Admissions refund reports, credit card chargebacks and Retail product write-off reports.

  • Works with retail staff to ensure that Museum Store reconciles with the GL.

  • Prepares the monthly sales tax entries ensuring timely submission of payments.

  • Maintains the Museum's Fixed Asset records, including monitoring ongoing capital projects.

  • Reconciles all accounts receivable and deferred revenue accounts monthly.

  • Assists with recording, tracking and maintaining all Museum contracts (vendors, lease agreements, insurance policies, etc.). Provides a monthly report on listing of contractual updates.

  • Processes year end reporting of 1099 and 1096 forms.

  • Assists with the coordination of financial projects as directed by the Controller/CFO.

  • Assists with cycle and annual retail physical inventory counts.

  • Performs and completes other job duties and special projects, as needed.


Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required.

  • Two to five years of accounting experience, including but not limited to two to three years' experience with accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent MS Office products such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Edge, and excellent computer skills.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

  • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to work flexible schedule, as needed, to support Museum goals and initiatives.

  • Maintains highest standards of integrity, including confidentiality of privileged information.

  • Highly motivated, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Ability to sit for long hours at a workstation.
