Mechanical test engineer

As a?Senior / Staff?Reliability & Durability?Test?Engineer focusing on Mechanical Systems, you will play a key role in designing reliability into Tesla's Industrial Energy and Charging?

Systems.?This role follows the reliability lifecycle of the product from concept to design, development?testing / analysis, manufacturing, and field operation to design-in, confirm, and grow exceptional reliability at every stage.

You will investigate failures through physical testing of industrial systems to accurately predict the mechanical system's robustness and optimize product reliability while accelerating?

Tesla's next gen products'?time to market.

• Lead?reliability & durability?test engineering activities?for all?Industrial?Energy Storage and Charging products


• Determine?energy product?test strategies that?optimize?for product?reliability and?durability, DFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program?schedules


• Execute?product,?subsystem,?and?component?level reliability / durability?testing


• Conduct test data analysis, clearly communicate test results, and collaborate with design and reliability engineers to resolve issues detected in testing


• Design and implement next generation hardware test systems to?facilitate?reliable design characterization and accelerated life?testing


• Procure and develop required equipment and test setup hardware?to enhance creative product level / system integration reliability?testing


• Facilitate?design FMEA sessions?and continuously?drive mechanical?risk burndown to ensure?product design is?reliable?and durable


• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, reliability, and manufacturing engineers to suggest design and / or process improvements and to address reliability?

durability?issues based on understanding of failure root causes

• Train technicians?and test?engineers to?operate?and troubleshoot test equipment


• Comply with?safety policies and regulations


• BS / MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline


• 3-10?years of experience in hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability and durability testing


• Knowledge of general programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis / post-processing


• Experience?with?hand and power tools



• Excellent teamwork / interpersonal skills


• Experience pro-actively owning and delivering?test engineering projects?within accelerated validation timelines


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills


• Excellent organization and documentation skills


• Experience working safely with high voltage?equipment


• Proven ability to develop reliability tests including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing is highly?preferred
