POSITION OVERVIEW:
Transfer freight between trailers and dock area for loading and unloading purposes.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat, tidy, and free of debris.
- Examine the paperwork for the consignment and compare it to the freight's description, determining whether the information about the goods' classification, weight, and hazardous content matches accurately with modern electronic and manual recordkeeping systems.
- Guarantee the integrity of the cargo by effectively securing it within the trailer using suitable tools and materials.
- Rectify and remedy any freight that has been harmed.
- Authenticate and finalize the necessary documents and reports.
- Aid customers with their cargo and needed paperwork when requested.
- In the event of a requirement, carry out the job of hostling.
- Observe and conform to all applicable laws and regulations, along with the policies and procedures of the organization.
- Execute supplementary tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- It is preferable for the candidate to have completed high school or have a corresponding certification.
- The minimum age requirement for this is 18 years.
- People who have had previous engagement in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operations are given priority.
- Prior knowledge in hostler/yard mule responsibilities is an advantage for the job.
- Skill to do simple calculations and handle numerical data, regardless of the means or tools used.
- The ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely through writing is essential for effective communication.
- Capability to lift and transport items by hand of differing weights on several occasions weekly, manage dock plates weighing roughly 100 pounds, and open trailer doors that call for approximately 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times every day.
- Possess expertise in executing physical movements such as twisting, squatting and bending to operate freight throughout the entire shift.
- The ability to work solo or as an integral part of a team.
- Having worked in a dock or warehouse setting before is beneficial.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The dock environment exposes individuals to an array of weather conditions, exhaust fumes, noxious fumes, dust, and excessive noise.
- Variations in operational demand may lead to shift time changes.
- A demanding climate requiring frequent correspondence with service center representatives.
